The 2020-25 Strategic Plan is aimed at transforming HISPASAT and anticipating the technological changes that are taking place by proposing innovative solutions to challenges that will allow all citizens to access digitisation. It is about shifting, in a measured and orderly manner, from HISPASAT’s traditional commercial business model towards business with greater growth potential and added value in the future. The plan includes the following points:
When the COVID-19 pandemic was declared on 11 March, two steps were taken. First, drawing up an internal protocol aimed at protecting the health and safety at work of HISPASAT staff. We made sure to fully assess the management of associated risks from a global perspective, which includes areas like occupational health and safety, cleaning, training and waste management. This was all with a view to creating an environment of trust in the workplace and to combining on-site and remote working.
At the same time an overarching plan was put in place to adapt to the new scenario caused by the health crisis, aimed at securing business continuity and ongoing operations, as well as limiting the financial effects of the new situation.
To do this, a contingency plan was established for control centres, teleports and all facilities linked to
satellite operations and to telecommunications signal traffic, in order to maintain operations and give ongoing support to customers to keep services running.
In order to limit the financial impact of the health crisis, three basic lines of action were determined:
The HISPASAT Board of Directors approved the appointment of its new President, Mr Jordi Hereu, on 8 October, replacing Mrs. Rosario Martínez Manzanedo. His appointment was based on a proposal from the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) following an extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting. The new President takes on a new professional challenge and commitment to solve HISPASAT’s challenges, ensuring its growth and creating value for its shareholders and interest groups.
After HISPASAT became part of the Grupo Red Eléctrica, in September 2020 the company moved from its headquarters in Madrid to the Albatros Building in Alcobendas. In addition, a demonstration centre has been opened to showcase all the applications that HISPASAT can now offer through its alliances with different companies, focused on offering innovative solutions that will lead to the whole area where its services are available being digitalised. This laboratory of ideas is located in the HISPASAT Satellite Control Centre, which is in Arganda (Madrid).
