Letter from the President

We will always remember 2022 as a complicated, difficult year, one that was full of uncertainties because it was a year in which we started to leave the pandemic behind and we witnessed the great tragedy of the war in Ukraine. The challenges of the year brought about a new geopolitical framework in the world with new difficulties in the economy, in logistics, and in many other areas.

It was a year where we started to appreciate even more the value of strategic autonomy. Faced with complicated moments of uncertainty, the best option is to have a good road map and at Hispasat we created a great Strategic Plan in 2020 that allowed us to be able to address these challenges. This is what I want to share with all of you, that we have faced 2022 having fulfilled, and even exceeded, all the goals that we had established.

We created new projects with the purchase of Axess that enabled us to have a greater presence in the world and in new markets. The company joined new iconic projects like the Green Engine, we are in the phase of implementing rural connectivity across Spain, and we are creating robust transformation processes to tackle the latest challenges on the market. We are in a process of qualitative and quantitative growth that will enable Hispasat to have certainty in facing the challenges of the future.

At times like these I want to thank the excellent hard work of each and every member of Hispasat throughout 2022. I truly want to thank you personally for the dedication, talent, work, and commitment to service that we here at Hispasat have for our home country and the countries that we serve.

This year, 2023, will be highly demanding, full of challenges, of changes in the market, in technologies with a new geopolitics which will undoubtedly affect the world of space: the space of the future and the future of space. But we have a great foundation in 2023 to once again meet our goals in terms of sales, profits, and growth, and in tackling new markets, new services, and new territories.

We are in a great situation to have a seat at the table where the future of space in Europe and the world is being decided.

I want to recall that in September 2022 we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the first satellite launch and that now, in February 2023, we ¡the launched the latest great, innovative satellite: the Amazonas Nexus. More than 30 years of history have passed between these two launches. Many things have changed on the market, in technology, but we here at Hispasat have maintained, as always, the same values of service and the same ambition to innovate to serve people and regions better.

I want to once again thank and encourage you all to take on 2023 with new ambitions and new challenges that we will undoubtedly overcome as we reach our goal.

Thank you all and congratulations for 2022.

Letter from the CEO

The year 2022 marked a milestone for the history of our company, and it did so in an unprecedented global context, in which Hispasat is in the midst of a transformation process in the midst of a disrupted sector.

Despite all that, Hispasat successfully met its demanding commitments in a timely manner.

We not only achieved everything we set out to do, but we did it in a context in which the leading operators from the sector lost value.

Our consolidated revenue grew almost 24% at constant rates, reaching 230 million euros, principally driven by the contribution of the acquisitions made in fiscal years 2022 and 2021 and by robust organic growth of 4%.

At the close of 2022, the EBITDA has exceeded148 million euros, showing an 8.5% growth at constant exchange rates and on a like-for-like basis.

The year’s Net Profit has reached almost47 million euros and the operating cash flow reached 131 million euros.

We have fulfilled the demanding objectives of the Strategic Plan set out until present, and we have revised it with even more ambitious goals.

Of course, we moved forward with the Amazonas Nexus programme under complicated conditions due to the situation in the sector during the pandemic. We successfully launched the satellite on 6 February, with an extremely high level of its capacity leased before its entry into service.

Furthermore, we have been able to showcase our commitment to sustainability, because we are the first operator to offset our carbon footprint by planting a forest.

In short, we have put Hispasat in a solid position to face the challenges that may arise in the space sector which is undergoing a radical transformation.

We have important challenges ahead of us for 2023.

Domestically, we are striving to effectively guarantee internet connection throughout the country and to promote Spain’s digital development.

In Europe, we are getting the participation of the Spanish industry in the development of the space sector, through IRIS2 and the PERTE aerospace projects: the distribution of quantum keys or the Atlantic constellation that can add strategic weight to our position in Europe.

In Latin America, we are leading the roll-out of services in the region ensuring Spain’s presence in the region’s economy.

In short, Hispasat has strengthened its position as a company capable of competing worldwide, in which space has become a new battlefield in the 21st century.

The road isn’t easy, but Hispasat knows how to move forward. We are a great team with exceptional professionals and we boast the values that give us strength and the cumulative experience to reach that goals that we have set out for ourselves: to be a benchmark in the space sector, providing communications and digital technology solutions.
