Acquisition of Axess

In 2022, Hispasat acquired AXESS Networks, a renowned teleport operator and satellite services provider operating in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The acquisition of AXESS Networks forms part of the actions defined in the company’s 2020-25 Strategic Plan, aimed at turning Hispasat into a satellite solutions and services provider in its main markets. This transaction means that Hispasat is more involved in the field of managed services and can provide greater guidance and adaptability for its customers. Furthermore, it will allow the company to make faster progress with its solutions in a sector that is experiencing a strong technological disruption.

Specifically, Hispasat will strengthen its offering in segments such as satellite mobile network extension, connectivity networks for corporate clients and the digitalisation of remote areas in countries with large technological divides. The transaction will also strengthen the development of solutions for incipient markets, such as the Internet of Things and satellite 5G. The benefits of this integration will be especially notable in Latin America, a region in which the two companies concentrate a highly significant part of their businesses.

Launch of Hispasat Wave

At the Washington SATELLITE Trade Fair the company announced the launch of Hispasat Wave, its latest generation of managed wholesale services aimed at service providers, telecommunications operators, governments and multimedia companies.

Hispasat Wave combines the excellent performance of HISPASAT’s fleet of satellites with the cutting-edge technology of its teleports and its value-added services in two large pillars, Networks and Video. Wave is based on a collaborative, customer-oriented approach to provide the best support to clients and partners in each step of the value chain.

Hispasat Wave Networks offers connectivity services for mobile network extension, roll outs of residential and corporate internet access and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and satellite Wi-Fi hotspots to connect the unconnected. Furthermore, this service provides connectivity for aerial, maritime and terrestrial mobility environments that make it possible to equip them with the best connectivity and entertainment services on board.

Lastly, Hispasat Wave Networks also features managed services for governmental programmes, like remote education and telemedicine, as well as highly reliable, rapid roll out services for the emergencies sphere. In all these, HISPASAT can offer service integration and management in line with its clients’ needs thanks to the company’s partnerships with its regional partners.

Hispasat Wave Video includes scalable end-to-end solutions to send and distribute television and content by satellite and OTT technology. Wave Video enables operators, distributors, ISPs and content providers to reduce their costs and extend their reach to the widest audience possible. Hispasat Wave Video solutions have benefited from HISPASAT’s acquisition of the assets and signal transport operations of Media Networks Latin America (a company of the Telefónica group) in Peru in 2021.

30th Anniversary of the
Hispasat 1A launch

In September 2022, Hispasat hosted the 30th anniversary of the launch of the first Spanish satellite, the Hispasat 1A. This project represented Spain’s inclusion in the space adventure and guaranteed the participation of Spanish industry in satellites, which is a strategic sphere for telecommunications, defence and cybersecurity.

The meeting was held in the old Palacio de Correos y de las Telecomunicaciones, Hispasat’s original headquarters, bringing together the sector’s main representatives and historical members of the company, among others. The event featured the people who promoted the project in 1992: Josep Borrell, the former minister of Public Works and the current High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; and Elena Salgado, then secretary general of Telecommunications and current president of the Spanish Consulting Association. The closing ceremony was hosted by Roberto Sánchez, former secretary of State of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure.
