We are attending a major revolution in the media sector. Users are demanding to view anything, anywhere and anytime. Business strategies are also shaken by the spread of multi-screen devices as well as Over-The-Top (OTT) services growth. In this framework many questions arise on how to contribute in the renewed market satisfying the user needs.
Satellite communications (Satcom) operators - Eutelsat, Hispasat and SES - has issued a joint position paper on the European space-based connectivity system advocated by European Commissioner Thierry Breton.
In the positioning paper, the satcom operators concur a European satellite infrastructure would help meet the objectives of the European Commission in terms of connectivity to all European citizens and would serve enterprises and public entities across Europe and beyond. The operators also highlight how they can play a central role in the satellite communications ecosystem by linking the technological advances of the space industry with the needs of society in the most cost-effective way.
Eutelsat, Hispasat and SES are part of a consortium of European satellite manufacturers, operators and service providers, telco operators and launch service providers selected to study the design, development and launch of a European-owned space-based communication system.
